Sword & Shield - DearkaxMiriallia

I don't own any Gundam Seed or any of it's characters.... which makes me sad since so many characters with so much potential weren't fully developed! OTL

Please forgive any mistakes, both character-wise and grammatically-wise. I don't really have time to re-read and re-edit things.

Sword & Shield

After the war had ended, Miriallia had wanted to make some use of herself. She had known that even though the cease fire had been called for, the hatred between Naturals and Coordinators wouldn’t die out so easily. It would take years and perhaps even several life times before a sort of peace could exist between the two.

And so she had turned to photography.

After all, what better way to show the people of the consequences of their hate than the concrete evidence of the destruction they were causing with their own hands?

Videos might have been better if she simply wanted that message to go across, but to Miriallia, photos held a more powerful message. They were silent and almost had no way of swaying the viewers of forming an opinion that was not their own. The photos called out to the people to think by themselves of what they were fighting for, to see after a moment of reflection if what they were doing was truly the right thing to do.

The job was dangerous since it meant going to war zones and personally seeing the hostile hatred between the two races... many people had objected to her having such a job. She could still remember Kira’s look of fear and anxiety, of how he worried of how she might end up becoming a casualty in one of the blood stained battles that still often took place on Earth. But this was something she wanted to do.

Back at the Archangel, her abilities had been limited. The CIC had great power when it came to communication and while it was a demanding and important job which Miriallia was proud of, she wanted to do more. She wanted to become one of the swords that paved its way into peace.

She didn’t want to physically fight and hurt others. However, she didn’t want to just sit around and preach to people about what she believed in.

To connect with people... to share the experiences and grow with everything so that someday people wouldn’t use the word ‘armistice’ when it came the war between Natural and Coordinators but peace.

It would mean putting her life on the line at all times, but this was something she truly believed in and wanted to do.

But what Miriallia didn’t understand was that though she wished to be the sword, a weapon was nothing with a shield.

There had been an internal war inside Dearka when he had learned of the profession she wished to follow.

Willingly entering danger zones to take pictures? Now that was some crazy talk. If Miriallia truly wanted to make a difference without really fighting or killing people, there could have been other ways that were less dangerous!

It was not in his place to talk though.

As much as he desired to stop her, he knew it was pointless.

But still, he had tried to persuade her, hoping that maybe she might listen and understand.

Unfortunately, while Miriallia did listen to his words, if anything it only seemed to make her angry. And Dearka knew for sure that she listened to him because oftentimes she would use his own words as rebuttal in order to show just how angry she was over how he was constantly trying to stop her instead of supporting her.

But how the hell could he actually support her when it felt like he was giving her permission to run through a rain of bullets?

It had gnawed at him day and night as he desperately tried to find a solution to this. Then when Miriallia asked that they go on a break, Yzak had been about ready to kill him over how de-motivated he had been in life.

Dearka had lost the girl of his dreams and she was still running under the not-that-really metaphorical rain of bullets.

The second war had arrived swiftly, giving him barely any time to reflect. Sometimes he was so caught up in his work that it was impossible to think about Miriallia at all... no, that was a lie. Every small second he had to himself, his mind would somehow wander to her.

The moment this stupid war was over, he knew he would look for her. How could he not when she was always in his mind? But what could he do concerning this annoying thorn in his side? How could he watch over her, protect her, while not smothering her away from him?

That’s when the ideas began to sink in.

There were things he could do.

Minor but still useful things.

Dearka knew he couldn’t possibly always follow her movements... but to at least be able to know where she was during her job, to check in with his contacts so that they could occasionally see to it that she was safe... after all, he had made various friends in Zaft, both low and high. They would all easily submit to any favors that he asked.

The little things he could do to keep her safe.

Miriallia was smart. She would figure it all out sooner or later what he was doing behind the scenes, but this would be one thing he would be firm about.

Because if Miriallia was the sword, Dearka would be damned if he didn’t turn himself into a fine shield for her whether she liked it or not.

AN: Okay, I'm done with the whole Dearka is learning his lesson thing. xD I think it may sound like Miriallia is a bit selfish here, but that's because it mostly focuses on Dearka's feelings, especially towards the end. Anyways, I'm done for now on this sort of topic. Let's get on with the smexy/fluff! 8D
