Sacrifice - DearkaxMiriallia

I don't own any Gundam Seed or any of it's characters.... which makes me sad since so many characters with so much potential weren't fully developed! OTL

Please forgive any mistakes, both character-wise and grammatically-wise. I don't really have time to re-read and re-edit things.

Sacrifice

The first time Dearka had gone into berserker mode, it had been a frightening sight. Though playful and often regarded as immature, only a select few knew that Dearka was quite the calculating type who was always a step ahead of others. That was one of the reasons why he was considered such a deadly opponent. His mind was always clear in battle and he manipulated others, whether physically or mentally, in order to win the fight
But for him to be in such a high and powerful state had made him into an even more formidable enemy.
And it was her fault that he was like this right now.
Miriallia was normally very careful. A combination of quick wit and luck prevented her from getting caught by soldiers whenever she’d snoop around for information regarding the war or when she’d venture too close to war zones, but this time it had all gone wrong. The guide who had been leading her through the artillery blasted city had gotten killed and she had been taken by the vagrants who belonged neither to the Earth Forces or Zaft.
Stragglers who ran around in the lawless land, plundering, killing, raping however they pleased...
They hadn’t done anything to her at first, originally trying to figure out who she was and to see how useful she could be to them. But of course, they would find nothing other than the articles she had written for the Orb Union magazine and her time as a normal civilian. Her history in the Earth Forces was sealed so tightly that no one, not even those in the Earth Forces, would be able to easily discover her past.
Unfortunately, this meant she was useless to them... and the perfect prey.
Three days had gone by before they had determined her to be worthless for whatever sick cause they had going for them... and of course, as Miriallia had learned through her years of experience as a war photographer, whenever lawlessness ran rampant, women were often raped and tortured by the immoral men around them.
Her skin crawled, remembering the hands that ran as they pleased. There were bruises on her arms and some forming on her legs. Her shirt had been torn into pieces...
...but of course, just like whenever she was in trouble, Dearka would appear.
That stupid fool... her little knight in shining armor... always getting in trouble because of her, but he would always make an entrance whenever she was in danger.
And when he discovered her pinned down by several men on the cold and dirty floor, it was as though his blood had run cold and his sense of self had died. Something snapped at the sight of her so helpless and scared with tears on her face, the reddening of her cheek from being hit and the wounds all over her body.
A part of him had broke into pieces when he had learned of her disappearance and it had taken all of his willpower not to lose it then and there, to lose his self-control right in front of his superior and best friend.
And thank the gods that Yzak was his commander or else he would have defected from Zaft all over again, leaving without permission in order to find Miriallia and hunt down the bastards who dared to touch her.
She was his.
Under his protection, surrounded by his love... she had stolen everything from him the moment the two had connected during the war and she had only slowly started to shyly reciprocate.
And these pieces of filth had actually had the audacity to do this to her.
There had been seven men in total, but it was nothing Dearka couldn’t handle. He had been a Zaft Red Coat elite for a reason, demoted to Green only because of his actions in the last war. There had been several chances where he could have been promoted, but he never accepted. He was content with working under Yzak while having the free time to spend with Miriallia.
Those skills trained and burned into his mind all came tumbling out, easily disarming and tearing apart the men who had been taken off guard by the sight of the tall intimidating Coordinator with those misty flat amethyst eyes that seemed to pierce one’s soul.
It was a massacre.
Miriallia clutched onto the coat Dearka had draped around her, wincing at the loud cry of pain from one of the men as Dearka knocked his head into the wall.
So this was the famed Coordinator ability... the berserker mode, where one’s own abilities were heightened to the point of being a monster. Miriallia had heard of it before from Kira, but had only seen it in action whenever Kira went into such a mode in battle with the Gundam Suits.
However, it was a totally different story to see it close up in person with no weapons of mass destruction in between. And in a way, this was much more frightening and realistic.
It made one more aware of just how different Coordinators were from Naturals.
No shields, no swords, no man-made weaponry... just one’s own bare hands, proving how such weaponries were no match under the anger of a berserked Coordinator.
A monster?
Were the Blue Cosmos right? Were Coordinators abominations that didn’t deserve to live? Were they dangerous demons just lurking underneath that beautiful engineered exterior?
Miriallia tightened her grip on Dearka’s coat, angry at how her mind seemed to replay the ridiculous words those racist Blue Cosmos people always shouted.
No...
No!
No, they were wrong!

Miriallia chuckled lightly as Dearka snoozed on her lap, so deep into his sleep that he didn’t even budge as Yzak’s angry aura flared throughout the room. Shiho had an exasperated look while standing behind Yzak, though Miriallia spied the smile playing on her lips.
Miriallia had made an impromptu visit as her job had been nearby. Though Yzak had reluctantly allowed for them to talk for at least half an hour, somewhere along the way, the exhausted soldier had slowly started to fall asleep, apparently much too comfortable around her presence. And in all honesty, Miriallia hadn’t the heart to wake him up when the half-hour mark passed... though, even when she had run her fingers through his hair, Dearka had merely snuggled into her with a smile, not even close to waking up.
So much for the envied superior senses.
When he was like this, Dearka was more like a puppy than a feared Zaft soldier.

Would a monster be able to smile so serenely?

"D-Dearka, stop!” Miriallia squeaked as the tall blonde sprayed kisses all over her face. From the corner of her eye, she saw the flushed faces of their friends at the amorous advances of her boyfriend. Though embarrassed, Miriallia could understand Dearka’s unending affection since they hadn’t seen each other in months.
“How sweet, he missed her,” Lacus cooed while Athrun chuckled awkwardly. Of course Lacus wouldn’t notice anything other than the reasoning behind the affection.
“You perv, do that in a room, not in front of all of us!” Cagalli yelled, smacking her hands over her eyes so she didn’t have to see the display. Kira, on the other hand, looked torn between doing the same and stopping Dearka from practically ravishing one of his best friends in front of him.
Dearka paused and seemed to think about it for a moment before making a Cheshire grin. “Yeah, you’re right. Let’s go Miriallia.”
Her sapphire eyes goggled at him when he grabbed her hand and began to guide her away. She looked at him in astonishment, her head swiveling from him to her bemused friends as her mind tried to comprehend that he was guiding her to their room in the hotel. “W-Wait a mi-Dearka, you idiot!”

Would a demon be able to hold her hand so gently, as though she was the most precious thing to him in the world?
If he truly was just an unfeeling inhuman being, would he currently be running rampant, angry on her behalf over how these people had just tried to rob her dignity and humanity?
Miriallia grabbed Dearka’s blood-smeared wrist and was almost thrown forward at the force behind it. But as though he unconsciously knew who it was that had touched him, Dearka froze. The man whose collar he was holding groaned loudly in pain, but it fell to deaf ears as Dearka slowly turned his head.
There were flecks of blood on his handsome tanned face that had been tightened with a vicious scowl. Hell, there was blood even on his clothes, none of which belonged to him.
Mirialia’s trembling hand reached up to cup him by the cheek, her shimmering sapphire eyes gazing pleadingly right at him, willing him to come back to her. He wasn’t a killer. He wasn’t a monster. He was simply Dearka Elsman, the idiot she had fallen so hopelessly in love with.
“No more,” she whispered in a husky voice. “Please... no more...”
And as though her words had been the key, the man Dearka had been clutching dropped soundly onto the floor and she was pulled into a tight desperate embrace.
“I thought I’d lost you forever,” he whispered so softly and Miriallia could no longer hold the tears. The fear from the past few days and the fear she had felt now from when she had been... attacked... and when she had seen Dearka in such a blood-thirsty state... it all came out at once and she clutched onto him tightly, sobbing into his shirt.
Dearka held onto the back of her head, drawing her closer to him, as if to shield her from the other atrocities of the world.
So close... he had been so close in being too late in protecting her.
But never again.
There will never be a second time.
He could... and he would do better.
For there was no such thing as a sacrifice not worth enacting if it meant keeping Miriallia safe from harm.

AN: You know, I've never understood why people think Dearka is such a goofball... well, yeah, I understand in the context that he's very playful and mouthy... but you can tell that his true character isn't like that. Even the official guide-book/fanbook or whatever says that he's treacherous and cunning.

He's just very... gentle?... when it comes to Miriallia because he's unsure of how to handle her. She's something new to him... especially since this entire time, he believed her race to be the enemy. Not to mention, I believe he's a playboy and so, he's never really met an intelligent girl before... and I think he was also taken by not only how cute she is, but by how she held her pain inside instead of lashing out to the Coordinators. Once he realizes just how much he cares for her, you know his true personality will shine. I find him to have a darker, deeper personality than what most people believe. Like he was the only one to remain calm when Nicol was killed, saying that the focus shouldn't be about being sad or angry about it... that they should focus on getting revenge instead. He's also very quick witted with a sharp mouth.

Well... that's my take on him. He's a definite badass, not just a jokster. The thing I like about him the most is that he's a lot more intelligent than people give him credit for. Once you think you have the upper-hand, he attacks you from behind and you won't have time to realize what just happened. Dearka just didn't have that much time to shine since those other characters were the main focus. -____- dumb in my opinion, especially since his relationship with Miriallia could have been a definitely juicy topic to explore.

Rumors

It was a bright beautiful day. The sun was shining brilliantly and the sky was as blue as it could be. Even the weather forecast had stated that today was going to be a clear, peaceful day.

...so why was her best friend Kira grabbing onto her shoulder with a constipated look on his face?

Miriallia sighed even as Kira tightly gripped her shoulders. “What’s wrong?”

“Is it true?”

Ho boy. Kira was normally the smart collected type, but if he was starting to bring out questions when she didn’t even know what he was talking about then they had problems. “Kira, start from the beginning. What’s going on with you?”

“Sai told Cagalli who told Athrun who told Lacus who told me that-that,” the bad feeling Miriallia had only grew at how Kira seemed to be freaking out.

“Kira, spit it out.” She bit out, torn between losing her patience and being worried about what could have possibly made Kira into a blubbering mess.

“I-I heard... I heard that y-you’re,” Kira gulped and then looked at her straight in the eye, “pregnant.”

There was a pregnant pause... pun intended.

“WHAT?” Miriallia shrieked so loudly that Kira’s enhanced senses made him feel as though his skull was being split in half. With a yelp, he released her shoulders and clung onto his ears. “I’m WHAT?”

“T-That’s the rumors circulating around the bridge,” Kira said with a wince, regaining his hearing a little.

“Where the hell could people have gotten that conclusion from?” she demanded, grabbing him by the collar as if by shaking him, the answers would somehow surface. “And for goodness sakes, we’re in war! Where the hell would I have the time to get p-p-pregnant and for your information, I’M STILL A VIRGIN!”

And then... somewhere in the distance, she heard a very happy cheer.

Miriallia promptly dropped Kira, her face rapidly paling.

She knew who the culprit of this entire mess was.

“DEARKA ELSMAN!”

AN: Haha, just to tell readers, nah, Dearka didn't spread the rumors. He just conned Sai into starting a vaguely worded rumor he knew would escalate to a level like that. Rumors tend to do that, especially if it's spread via the telephone method. xD Dearka's crafty like that.
