I don't own any Gundam Seed or any of it's characters.... which makes me sad since so many characters with so much potential weren't fully developed! OTL

Dearka found Miriallia outside the balcony, her form leaning against the rail as she stared out into the city. He approached her quietly in case she decided to run and made enough noise to announce his presence once he was too close for her to escape. Her shoulders tensed, but she didn’t move, her gaze still outward. He leaned against the rail next to her, pressing his shoulder against hers.

Wedding Ring Blues
“I don’t
know about this,” Miriallia said, warily eyeing the ring Kira handed to her.
The brown haired boy looked at her pleadingly, pressing his hands together and
putting it in front of him.
“I’m
sorry, Mir, but I really don’t know the size of Lacus’s finger and it’s awkward
to ask Athrun about it.” Kira explained with an apologetic smile. “I heard that
your fingers are exactly like hers so you’re my only hope without things
getting messy.”
Miriallia
really doubted that her fingers were anywhere near like the slender fingers of
the pink-haired princess. Still, it didn’t look like Kira was going to budge.
Gods, she better win the ‘best friend award’ for this. With a heavy sigh, she took
jewelry from him. And she had to admit that it was gorgeous, resembling a
diamond bypass style engagement ring.
...it
also looked really pricy.
Hoping
nothing would go wrong, Miriallia slipped the ring on. It was a snug fit, but
seemed to fit her finger perfectly.
“It
fits,” she said, holding her hand up for Kira to see.
He
perked up. “That’s great!”
“Yeah,
I’m sure Lacus will love it.” she said with a smile, though inside, she knew
Lacus would love anything Kira would give her. Even a plastic ring would have
made her produce the biggest of all smiles.
“I really
hope so, Mir,” Kira said, eyeing the diamond on Miriallia’s finger fondly. He
wanted everything to go perfectly and now that he knew the ring would fit, the
only problems in his agenda was how he would present it... and what Lacus’s
response would be.
“Okay,
now let me just-,” Miriallia wiggled the ring around only to freeze. “I...
uh...”
“What’s
wrong?” he asked, getting a sinking feeling when he saw the look on Miriallia’s
face.
She
quickly whirled around from him and all he could see were her arms moving
around frantically. There were small sounds of pain and a hint of desperation
coming from her as she continued to struggle with something.
“Miriallia?”
he asked carefully and Miriallia slowly turned around, her face completely pale
as she slowly lifted her hand again to Kira.
“I can’t
get the ring off.”
Kira
could have fainted just there. Instead, he stared at her dumbly for a few good
seconds before yelping. “What?”
“I can’t
get it off!” Miriallia said in a panic, twisting the ring around her reddening
finger for Kira to see. He grabbed her hand and tugged at the ring, only to
quickly stop when she yelped out in pain.
“Sorry,”
he rushed, pulling away.
“It’s
okay,” she said with a wince. “But what are we going to do? Weren’t you
planning on proposing today since its Lacus’s birthday?”
“The
ring was custom made so I can’t get another one,” Kira waved his hand around,
looking frustrated and frantic. “I guess... I guess I won’t be able to do it
today.”
“No!”
Miriallia yelled, grabbing Kira by the shoulders. Kira and Lacus had spent
years together with an awkward sort of courtship going on. If he didn’t seize
the day today, who knows when it would actually happen? Not to mention, knowing
how pessimistic Kira has become due to the war, he might actually see this as
an omen that they shouldn’t marry.
And
Miriallia refused to let Kira prevent himself from gaining happiness!
“You are
going to propose to Lacus Clyne today, she is going to say yes, and the two of
you will have a bunch of cute little Coordinator babies and I will be their
loving Natural aunt who will spoil them rotten! Is that clear, Kira Yamato?”
Miriallia yelled, shaking him for emphasis.
“R-Right,”
he agreed mechanically, his mind completely going blank at the mere mention of
kids. “But how will we get the ring off? The party’s in a few hours.”
“Isn’t
there... isn’t there some kind of lubricant we can use to get the ring off?
Like butter o-or oil?” Miriallia’s head shot up quickly at that. “Baby oil!
Cagalli has some in her room. She uses it to wipe her make-up off.”
Kira
gave her a weird look. “Cagalli wears make-up?”
Miriallia
laughed nervously. Honestly speaking, the blonde haired princess was feeling a
little insecure about a certain Coordinator’s attraction to her and had wanted
to try and pretty herself up. Unfortunately, she was very bad at using such
beauty products and had snared Lacus and Miriallia into helping her... though
Miriallia wasn’t all that good herself in that department.
“Never
mind about that, just hurry and-eep!” the door swung open and Athrun entered
the room. He paused when he saw Kira and Miriallia looking at him nervously and
then narrowed his eyes.
“What
are you two up to?”
“N-Nothing,”
Kira stammered, standing in front of Miriallia. Oh gods, out of all people, why
did it have to be Athrun coming into the room? Athrun was his best friend and
the navy haired Coordinator already knew Kira wanted to marry Lacus eventually...
but this was too sudden and he wanted to keep his plans a secret!
“Right,”
Athrun said unconvinced. “Well, whatever you two may be up to, I need Miriallia
right now.”
“Eh?
What for?” Kira asked before he heard Miriallia slap herself on the forehead.
“Of course,
I’m doing a spread about Cagalli for the magazine I’m working for.” Miriallia
explained, having completely forgotten about it when Kira had taken her into
the other room to talk about the ring. But now this was really bad. Cagalli and
Athrun were both the inquisitive types and would no doubt bother her to death
about the ring... and she knew Kira wanted the whole proposal thing to be a
surprise. “Since Cagalli is busy with work, I had to beg for a piece of her
time and the only time was while setting up for Lacus’s birthday.”
“So you
can’t reschedule?” Kira asked in horror.
“It took
weeks for her to finally find some time,” Miriallia ran her hand through her
hair frantically and stiffened when she saw Athrun’s eyes immediately zero in
on her fingers. She quickly pulled her hand down and behind her back. “E-Erm,
maybe rescheduling is a good idea.”
“And
wait months until Cagalli’s free again?” Athrun asked, a smirk growing on his
face.
“Well if
Miriallia is fine with it t-then-,” Kira said with a nervous chuckle when
Athrun gently grabbed Miriallia by the shoulders, guiding her to the door.
“Now,
now, Cagalli is a busy woman. You wouldn’t want to force her to reschedule just
because of personal problems, now would you?”
“Wait
Athrun!” Kira yelled when Miriallia tilted her head.
“I’ll be
fine Kira, just... get the thing.”
She said through gritted teeth. Fine, she’ll try and hide the ring.
Fortunately, she was right-handed, so maybe they wouldn’t notice since she
would be taking notes with her right hand.
The door
closed behind her and now it was just her and Athrun in the long hallway. She
had hoped it would be a walk with just silence when he, of course, broke it
with an inquisitive voice. “If I may ask, what is this thing you two are talking about?”
Miriallia
laughed tensely, her voice cracking at some point. “Haha, it’s nothing, nothing
at all. How have you been Athrun?”
“You and
I talked just a few hours ago so you should know,” he said with unhidden amusement.
“R-Right,”
of course, dumb Mir! He was the first one to greet her when she had arrived at
Cagalli’s mansion.
“You do
know I’m going to figure it out eventually,” he continued and Miriallia almost
jumped at the conspiring tone. In fact, she did jump when Athrun suddenly
grabbed her left wrist, lifting it up for both to see. “And I think I have a
very good idea about what’s going on.”
The
traitorous diamond shined brilliantly under the hallway light.
“This
ring?” Miriallia asked before forcing out a laugh. “It’s nothing. Just a
little... uh... piece of jewelry of mine?”
“Placed
on a very symbolic finger?” he arched an eyebrow.
“Erm...
I...”
“I don’t
see why you’re keeping it a secret. It’s nothing to be shy about.” Athrun said
gently and suddenly, a chill went down Miriallia’s spine. She had a bad feeling
about this. “I suppose I get that you and Dearka wanted to keep it surprise-.”
Miriallia
stared at him.
What?
“-and I
admit, I had no idea he was planning to propose to you out of nowhere, but I
don’t understand why you’re so nervous about me finding out about it. Do you
think you and Dearka are moving too fast?”
What?!
“I...
I...” caught speechless, Miriallia could only gap at Athrun who, again,
misunderstood her reaction.
“Don’t
worry, I’ll keep it a secret and be surprised with all the others when the news
comes out. There’s just one person I can’t keep a secret to.” he said,
approaching a nearby door and Miriallia immediately understood what he meant.
“Athrun,
wait-!”
The door
swung open and Athrun ran inside, yelling. “Cagalli, Miriallia and Dearka are
getting married!”
There
was a loud shatter as a tea cup fell onto the ground. But alas, it wasn’t
Cagalli who had dropped the cup. It was the one sitting in front of her.
Miriallia
really wanted to just get sucked into a black hole when she recognized a
familiar silver haired pilot sitting on one of the chairs, his fingers still in
pose of holding a tea cup while his jaw was slacked. His eyes were wide open
before he leaped to his feet, letting out an ear-splitting yell. “What?!”
“Yzak,”
Athrun said in surprise, taking a step back.
“Is it
true?” Cagalli squealed, rushing past a frozen Yzak to grab Miriallia left
hand. She lifted it up and cheered happily, pulling Miriallia in for a hug.
“Congratulations! I didn’t think the idiot had the guts to propose to you.”
“W-Wait,”
Miriallia said with an awkward laugh. This was all happening so fast! And why
was Yzak here in the first place? He should be in space right now! “You have it
all-.”
“The
bastard was planning to propose and he didn’t tell me?” Yzak yelled darkly and
Athrun chuckled.
“Don’t
be so annoyed. He took us all by surprise.”
“Wow,
the ring’s fancy too,” Cagalli remarked and winked at Miriallia. “Should have
known that fashion conscious guy would get something nice like this.”
“That
explains why the idiot’s been moody lately,” Yzak grumbled, crossing his arms.
Instead of doing his job, Dearka had been slacking off, disappearing and
leaving behind paperwork Yzak had to deal with instead! They were friends for
sure, but the silver haired man was really tired of covering for his butt.
Still, with a sigh, he nodded at Miriallia. “Congratulations.”
At least
he had chosen right.
Even if
Miriallia was a Natural, he approved of her.
“Thanks,”
Miriallia said automatically, trapped by the flow of the atmosphere. Then, she
shook her head wildly. That wasn’t what she meant! This was all now really
getting out of control. “You guys, listen to me, I-eep.”
Strong
arms wrapped around her and a face nuzzled into her neck. A familiar scent
pervaded her senses and her wired nerves automatically relaxed. “Missed you,
Mir.”
“Dearka,”
Miriallia breathed out. She hadn’t seen him in weeks! Ecstatic to have him
back, she was about to hug him when Athrun spoke up, making her remember the
fiasco she was caught in.
“Congratulations,
man. I have to admit, I had no idea what you were planning.”
“You
could have let me in on it though,” Yzak said sourly. “I wouldn’t have been
busting your ass with work so much if I had known.”
“Stop
pouting, Yzak,” Cagalli said, rolling her eyes.
“I’m not
pouting!” he yelled.
“Sulking
then,” Athrun said with a grin.
Dearka
looked at them completely puzzled, pulling away from Miriallia who, by now, was
covering her face with her palm. “What are you guys talking about?”
“Stop
playing coy,” Cagalli said with a punch to his arm.
“No,
really, I have no idea what you guys are talking about.”
Cagalli
lifted Miriallia’s hand to Dearka. “Your engagement to Miriallia, of course,
you idiot. Are you so trapped in cloud-nine that you think it’s just a dream?”
Dearka
stared at Miriallia’s hand before shoving Cagalli’s hand off it, clutching onto
Miriallia’s wrist tightly while his amethyst eyes stared in confusion and shock,
a frown clearly on his face. “Engagement ring? What engagement ring? I never-.”
“I found
the baby oil!” Kira yelled, bursting into the room. His eyes then took in the
people with Miriallia and the bottle promptly fell from his hands. “W-What’s
everyone doing here?”
“Argh, I
give up!” Miriallia threw her hands in the air and gasped when the ring slipped
off her finger. Oh now it decided it wanted to get off of her! Perfect timing!
Argh! She caught the damn thing and dumped it on Kira’s hand. “Here!”
“Wait,
Mir-!” Kira said, looking at the ring and then at Miriallia’s disappearing
figure. Before he could chase after her, a hand grabbed him by the shoulder.
“Dearka?”
“I’ll go
after her.” The taller Coordinator murmured before leaving.
Kira
stood there for a brief moment when another hand grabbed him by the shoulder.
Turning around, he stiffened at Cagalli’s eyes glowing with anger.
“Ki-ra,”
she drawled slowly before yelling loudly. “What the hell is going on?!”
“You
okay?” he asked quietly.
“Fine,”
she mumbled before she sighed, her shoulders sagging. “Sorry about that...”
“What
was that all about anyways?”
“Erm...
let’s just say Kira needed me to try on a ring for him and it caused a bit of a
misunderstanding with the others.” Miriallia said evasively, feeling a headache
start all over again just trying to remember what happened.
“Let me
guess, he wanted to propose to Lacus?”
She
laughed. It was all too obvious. “More or less.”
“So why
all the pouting?” he asked, poking her on the cheek.
“Embarrassment?”
she tried weakly, but Dearka merely pressed his forehead against her, his eyes
staring right at her. Her gaze turned to the side, unable to handle the
intensity of his eyes on her. “I... I didn’t want you of all people to get
caught in the misunderstanding. L-Like what if you thought I was making up lies
to pressure you or-.”
Dearka
snorted, almost rolling his eyes. “Like you would ever do that.”
“Of
course not!” she yelled hotly. “Why would I ever try-?”
“So why
are you so worried?”
“Oh shut
up, I wasn’t thinking.” Miriallia pulled away, crossing her arms and looking
away with an angry pout. Dearka grinned. It was rare for Miriallia to act like
this around him, which was a shame since she was so cute when she was like
this.
Miriallia
let out a loud squeak when Dearka suddenly grabbed her by the waist, lifting
her up into the air. “D-Dearka!”
“Do you
want to get married?” he inquired teasingly.
“This
better not be your idea of a proposal.” She said warningly with a glower,
though her heart skipped a beat at the question.
“Nah,”
Dearka said with a grin as he slowly lowered her towards him, their eyes locked
on one another. “You know me. I’d make it as flashy as possible and make sure
the entire world knows that you’re mine.”
“Idiot,”
Miriallia said fondly, her sapphire eyes gleaming with amusement as she leaned
forward to give him a kiss to seal the unspoken promise.
